What is the difference between weight and mass?

Mass is the amount of matter in a material while weight is a measure of how the force of gravity acts upon the mass.

Mass is based on the number of molecules contained in an object and is constant. Weight is the gravitational force acting on a mass and it depends on the local gravitational pull; e.g. object weighs less on Moon than on Earth.
